Dimpling Pliers

Specifications:

Manufacturer's Part Number:
31089

The Dimpling Pliers put a neat countersunk dimple in sheet metal that hides countersunk rivet heads. Simply line up your patch panel (steel or aluminum) over the repair area, and drill a series of 1/8 inch holes, spaced about 1 inch apart, through both panels. Remove the patch panel, dimple at each drilled hole, and do the same on the panel being repaired. The special "pilot" self-centers the dimple. Rivet the panel in place, cover the seam with a thin coat of filler, then finish. Dimpler fitted on 10 inch locking pliers for easy operation.

31089 - Eastwood Dimpling Pliers is rated 1.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Agree- Not a very good tool. I had my first one for a year before I used it. Two or three rivets later, the cheap vis_e_grip end of it (china version) snapped right off! Eastwood would not compensate, being a year old, even though I told them it had never been used. So I ordered another. Other users are correct. Dimple is not a countersink, and it leaves a very inconsistent and lousy "mark". I am going to try the ones from aircraft supply and see if they work better. I'm sure it will, and it is is lower cost, if not as convenient to use. But what good is convenient if the result is no good?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor design. Impossible to "dimple" two pieces with the same diameter die and expect one piece to fit inside the other. This tool does not "dimple" a countersunk hole but a hole resembling a counter bored hole. Countersunk rivets are useless. Better off making your own tool using Vise Grips and two dies, one for the base metal dimple and one for the panel. The panel dimple would be smaller and fit inside the base metal dimple and accommodate the head diameter of a countersunk rivet.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointing I intended to use these to dimple some aluminum sheet metal (about 1/64" thick) and they distorted the metal considerably and partially sheared the metal around the rim of the dimple. The dimple itself was uneven in depth with the side closest to pivot point of the jaws of the dimpler being noticeably deeper than the other side. I was unable to use these for the project I was working on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed with this product! I bought this product to attach a couple of repair panels to fenders I was repairing on my son's car. This is not a true dimpling plier. It is designed to make a depression in the metal that would move the rivet below the surface of the metal if it worked correctly. I tried to make "dimples" on various guages of metal with similar results in all instances. I did not try this on light aluminum but I suspect is might actually work in that application. The recess made ended up to be deeper on one side than the other making it impossible for panels to fit together correctly. I ended up returning this product and ordered a pair of dimpling pliers from Aviation Supply. The difference between the two pliers is that the Aviation Supply pliers simply make a dimple in the metal instead of trying to make a larger depression in the metal. I was disappointed in this product to say the least!
