    The Best "Street Performance" Carburetor

Edelbrock engineers have made a great carburetor even better. The new and exciting Thunder Series AVS carbs are designed and calibrated to deliver optimum street performance in hundreds of applications--they are undeniably the most innovative and dependable street performance carburetors available today. AVS stands for Adjustable Valve Secondary, which means just that--you have the ability to adjust the secondaries with simple tools (no springs required).
You can use a late opening for heavy vehicles with higher gears or an early opening for light vehicles with lower gears. For unmatched street performance, combine these carburetors with Edelbrock Performer, Performer Air-Gap, Performer EPS, Performer RPM, RPM Air-Gap, or Torker II manifold and camshaft combinations.

    Thunder Series AVS Carburetors:
    • All the same advantages of the Edelbrock Performer Series, such as factory-set float levels for infrequent adjustments, 2-step metering rods for independent tuning of cruise and power circuits, and the ability to change jets, adjust floats, or replace needles without draining fuel
    • Qwik-Tune secondary air valve
    • A sturdy 2-piece body with no power valves to blow and no gasket below the fuel level for leak-free operation
    • CNC-machined and profiled front face delivers a smooth, custom look
    • Satin or Endurashine finish
    • Spring-loaded needles and seats for consistent fuel supply over rough terrain and side-mounted fuel chambers that are less likely to flood when a vehicle climbs hills (ideal for off-roading and the 4x4 environment)
    • Optional single or dual inlet for total fuel plumbing flexibility
    • Available in 500, 650, and 800cfm with either manual or electric choke
    • Manual AVS carbs cannot be converted to electric choke
    • Installation and Tuning DVD included.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy install I purchased this around 2000 and still running strong...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Edelbrock Carb I bought this to replace a Holley Street Avenger that was getting about 10 MPG even after jetting for altitude and would not idle well. Jetted the Edelbrock for altitude (I live at 4700 feet) using the jetting kit and went to 19MPG and idles very good. On a Chevy 355 SB with a pretty aggressive cam. Runs better than the Holley did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great on 1967 Chev 396. Very little adjustments needed once installed. Does not come with nipple for power brake vacuum line, just a plug. Does not come with large vinyl vacuum plug for front of carb. Carb is for a square bore intake. I was surprised how many Edelbrock intakes have a spread bore and their carbs are square bore. If you have a spread bore you will need an adapter plate which raises carb about an inch. On the Edelbrock adapter plate I purchased, one of the stud holes was drilled off vertical. Required a little hammer tapping to get the stud vertical so carb could go onto the studs. Depending on your intake and vehicle you may have clearance problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I purchased this about a month ago, very pleased that I did. Replaced the Holley that was original to the motor and had a manual choke and replaced with the Edelbrock 1806 Thunder Series 650, electric choke and have had no problems idle flux or response. Install was straight forward which made ease of this project.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I should have bought it years ago! The Thunder Series AVS is a great carburetor that runs right out of the box. It has easy cold engine/weather starts. I miade a small adjustment to the AVS, and even that wouldn't have been needed. I like the smooth idle and great throttle response.

I have a 650 Edelbrock carburetor that is 16 years plus. Just need to know if I should rebuild or buy a new one?

    Asked by: Riverman
You will need to take your current carb apart and inspect it, mainly check the butterfly shaft to see if they have tons of play to the front and rear . Depending on if they are wore out and on your knowledge and capabilities it may just be cheaper and easier to but a new carb.
