    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solved the Ford design problem Ford built in a design problem by building my 2004 Mercury Marauder engine with plastic-bodied hydraulic primary chain tensioners. These have an O-ring sealing them to the engine block, but they don'ty seal long term because they're made of plastic. This kit includes cast iron tensioners with a ratcheting mechanism to so the tensioners don't relax too much when the engine is stopped without oil pressure, so they also cure the timing chain rattle at startup. The engine runs great now and doesn't rattle as it winds up through the RPM range. Although the tensioners are the root cause of the problem, the entire cam timing kit was replaced as stress and wear are caused by the timing chain slapping the guide/tensioner assembly. I suggest inspecting the hydraulic valve lash adjusters in the heads as well as they can be damaged over time from timing chain slap. This was seen as wear on the flat surface of the "lifter".
