This is the ultimate race version of the aluminum LS block which enjoys the state-of-the-art technology necessary to build an LS engine to over 440 cubic inches, and 900 horsepower! The C5R Race Blcok has seen serious race time (including wins at LeMans, GT-S, adn the 24 hours of Daytona). If you are building a "big" small block for your late model Camaro, Firebird, or Corvette, this is the aluminum block for you.
GM took a chance with the LS engine. They stayed true to the pushrod small-block and continued to develop this technology to the point that building a daily-driven, 500-plus HP car is no big deal. The GM Performance Parts LS Series cylinder blocks are designed specifically for late model small-block engines that run the LS Family cylinder heads. These include the LS1, LS2, LS4, LS6, LS7, LQ4, LQ9, and L76.
