Ordered it thinking the dimples would help clear the sniper unit but when I got it and compared it to a regular holley drop base like one from their air cleaner kits I noticed this one has less clearance than the one with whole air cleaner. They drop the same but this one is basically flat compared to the other one that also has provisions for valve cover breather tube. The other one raises up the center of the base then drops it only on the outer edge which allows for more throttle linkage clearance, fuel lines ect.

    Would this item needs to be purchased if I am using a stock dual snorkel air cleaner on an 84 Mustang?

    No, an air cleaner with a standard 5 1/8" flange will work with this throttle body.
