    Important Installation Notes:
  • Integral part of the Complete Hooker swap system for this application. Components feature unique design geometry that is not compatible with any other brand of transmission crossmember or headers.

  • Installation of these brackets requires the installation of new stock OE style clamshell engine mounts (Anchor/Westar 2292 mounts or aftermarket poly inserts), as installed on all 1978-88 A/G-body vehicles equipped with Chevrolet small block V-8 engines. Do not reuse old clamshell mounts as part of this installation.

  • When used with the related Hooker p/n 520-12644 transmission crossmember, this CAD designed engine swap mounting bracket kit will replicate the stock small block Chevy engine/transmission inclination angle in order to minimize the need to shim/adjust the rear pinion angle in stock to moderately lowered chassis applications.

  • Due to the unique design geometry of this engine swap mounting bracket kit, attempts to install it with headers and/or transmission crossmembers not developed by Hooker for this application will more than likely not be successful.

  • An engine hoist will be required to position the engine/trans into the vehicle in the proper orientation. Use of an adjustable-angle engine sling will greatly ease the hoisting/loading operation and negate the possible need to reposition the lifting chains mid-operation. An automotive lift or a jack and jack stands will be required to safely raise and support the vehicle.

  • If you are intending to retain the functionality of the stock A/C system, it is highly recommended that you install the engine and transmission into the vehicle separately to minimize the chance of damaging the evaporator case on the firewall when positioning the engine in the chassis. Due to the extremely large production tolerances across all year models of these vehicles, clearance between the right side valve cover and the evaporator case can range from 1/2'' to 0 distance between these components; some installations will provide a surplus of coil/coil bracket clearance while others will be tight and require the rear coil to be relocated away from the evaporator case for clearance.

If you are planning to swap an LS engine into your 1978-88 Monte Carlo, Malibu, El Camino*, Cutlass, Grand Prix, Regal, or Bonneville (A/G-Body), it is important to use components that are designed to work together to ensure a trouble-free install that provides optimized drivetrain geometry and component clearances.
    These Hooker engine swap mounting brackets provide an engineered 3 to 3.5 degree engine/transmission inclination angle that is critical to obtaining usable U-joint working angles (especially in lowered vehicles). Specifically designed for bolt-in compatibility with the Hooker transmission swap components and fully compatible with Holley LS swap oil pan and accessory drive brackets. This mounting bracket kit is part of the most comprehensively engineered system of mounting components, headers and exhaust systems available for this application. The entire Hooker swap system is designed to decrease your total swap installation effort and cost, while increasing the engineered quality of your vehicle and compatibility of these components with other popular aftermarket components. Use of any non-Hooker brand transmission crossmember or headers will have adverse effects on the ease of installation, component clearance, ground clearance and engine inclination angle (3° with Hooker engine mounts and transmission crossmembers) you can expect from your installation. With these components installed, your driveline will be purposely configured with compound U-joint angles, due to the chassis-centered alignment of your engine/transmission and the stock pinion offset of your rear differential.
    These brackets are designed to be used in conjunction with stock OE clamshell style engine mounts (as installed on all 1972-81 Camaro vehicles) that will be retrofitted into the swap vehicle through the use of the specially designed spacer plates included with this kit. The OE clamshell mounts and the long horizontally installed bolts used to secure them to the Hooker brackets are not included with this kit and will need to be purchased separately. In order to achieve the intended fitment and clearances of these components, it is highly recommended that new clamshell mounts (Anchor brand p/n 2292 or equivalent) be installed at the time of installation.

    These headers were specifically designed for compatibility with:
  • Hooker Headers LS Engine Swap Headers for 1978-88 Malibu/Cutlass/Regal/Monte Carlo
  • Hooker Headers transmission crossmember for LS engine swap (p/n 520-12644)
  • Hooker Headers exhaust systems (p/n 520-42511 or 520-42512)
  • Holley LS oil pan (p/n 510-302-2)
    Using ANY components other than what is listed here will result in misalignment and interference issues with these Hooker and Holley components.
