6901-1 - Hooker Headers Competition Series Ford and Mercury Car is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit & Easy Installation I had the uncoated version of these headers on my 302 65 mustang for nearly 20 years and was looking to upgrade to coated headers to reduce engine bay temperatures to match a new Aluminum radiator installation. These headers are great because the tubes are arranged relatively flat to each other which make them easy to slide up past steering boxes, transmission dipstick tubes, bell housings and other components you don't normally consider as obstacles. The flush flange makes getting those first two bolts in (rear inner and front outer) a million times easier as opposed to a raised port mating surface around the open ovals in other designs. The open holes in the flange allow for the use of a screwdriver to push down the gasket when you put it in which should be standard on all headers. Paired with a set of Stage 8 locking header bolts I was able to use four 1 inch bolts with locks on all of the outer driver's side. I used 1 inch bolts with locks on the front 3 of the passenger's side but due to the welded U I could only get a locking 1 inch bolt on the inner rear. I used 3/4 inch non-locking bolts on the other 8 holes. I initially went with a different brand and design due to the availability of a full bolt-on exhaust kit and had nothing but heartache trying to install them. These headers went on in 45 min compared to the 10 hour fiasco of me trying to use a different design. The price point is great for those not needing a custom ceramic coating and the ground clearance is what I've come to expect: Slow down approaching, going over, and leaving speed bumps. The only way these headers could be better is if Holley coordinated with companies that make full exhaust kits to have H-tubes that are pre-made to mate up with these headers and clear crossmembers on the Driver's Side with pre-flattened sections of pipe. I'd also ask for a little more clearance on the inner holes to make it easier to get 1 inch bolts in and the option to get headers without a U although those aren't deal breakers. If you have a 60's era car I'd seriously consider buying this header design even if you get the stainless version and have it custom coated instead. Now thanks to 4 locking header bolts per side I am also not experiencing any exhaust leaks!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Headers for 351W The headers look great, had trouble fitting the drivers' side in a 67 Mustang, needed to deform two pipes then cut and box the frame. The drivers' side also does not discharge straight so I have to modify the transition. Now that they are installed they look great, have not fired it up yet.
