Rated 5 out of 5 by from I don’t work in a professional machine shop but... I’m reviewing this Jeg’s Dial Bore Gauge as an amateur engine builder. The Jeg’s Gauge is an excellent tool for the purchase price. Despite the lack of an instruction manual, I found it very simple to use. Just take a few minutes to look over all of the various pieces and understand their function before beginning measurements. I did borrow a friends very expensive “professional” bore gauge to verify the accuracy of my work and I was very satisfied with the overall results. No degrees in rocket science or Pro Stock Engine building required. If I did work in a professional machine shop, I wouldn’t be so totally clueless that I would have to watch you tube videos just to get a clue. As an entry level precision measurement device, I would recommend this Jeg’s tool for its accuracy in proportion to the purchase price. In regards to the expensive gauge I borrowed for comparison, price doesn’t automatically guarantee accuracy. And the beat goes on...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A little dissapointing I work at a professional machine shop using high end gauges. I thought I would buy the 81600 for my own garage. When I received the case, the gauge and the pieces were wrapped nicely with plastic. I opened up the case and everything was as you see in the picture.. but with no instructions. It took me a while to figure out how every thing worked. I had to go on you tube and watch others that have this similar gauge how to put it together. I also went on another suppliers website that sells this same product and they had a pdf version of instructions that I downloaded. Going from high end gauges to this gauge is disappointing. The way you set the gauge in the holder is cheesy, there is a plastic sleeve below where the gauge goes, and wasn't sure if it had to come off when the gauge goes on. Remember, to set this gauge up you need a set of outside micrometers. The gauge does what it supposed to, but if I had one to hold and use before I bought this I would not have bought it. I don't like returning things if the product is opened and works. I kept it. I will give the product a chance.
