MSD Ignition 6201 - MSD 6-Series Ignition Control Boxes Details

    6-Series Digital Ignition Controls

MSD started with a clean slate and drew up plans for an all-new housing. We kept the same footprint as the traditional 6AL but lowered the profile for a sleek look. The wiring is all routed out one end of the unit through a sealed and locking connector. This eases installation and keeps your wiring looking neat and clean.

Inside the Digital 6A you'll find a microprocessor that monitors and controls every firing. The circuits are updated with efficient components that help the ignition produce more power while drawing less current! In fact, the new Digital 6A deliver over 530 volts to the coil with up to 135mJ of spark energy for every firing! Increased output combined with MSD's proven multiple spark series is a win-win situation!

The new Digital 6A is supplied with the wiring harness and the components you'll need for installation. Compatible on 4, 6, or 8-cylinder engines with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. Accepts trigger inputs from breaker points, amplifiers, and magnetic pickups.

    Highlights
  • Higher output with 530 primary volts and 135mJ of spark energy
  • Efficient components use less current to produce more power
  • Same bolt pattern as the original 6A with a lower profile housing
  • Built-in LED for system checks
  • All wires exit the same side through a locked, sealed connector

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I have had problems This is the 3rd MSD that I have purchased for my 1981 Jeep CJ-7, and less than 10,000 miles. The first was an offroad model and when I contacted the MSD manufacturers in El Paso, Texas, they said it could not be repaired even though it barely had 1000 miles on it. The 2nd was a MSD 6AL that had 7 or 8,000 miles on it. It would just quit and then you could let the vehicle sit for a while and cool off and then it would start again and then run for a while and quit. I bought a new coil thinking this might be the problem, same thing. I just recently bought another MSD 6 because I use my jeep to plow a little snow in our yard and I also pull my boat sometimes. Luckily I have a K&D tools ignition bypass that has its own coil and I was always able to move my jeep if I got stranded . I am running a 401HP engine with a Turbo 400 Trans full length header, Edelbrock performer intake and cam. It runs great, just wish that I could depend on the MSD to not quit on me at the most inopportune time.It has a fiberglass body but I made sure that the MSD unit was grounded to the engine and rubber shock mounted. I ran MSD in my 1966 426 Hemi charger with no problems, but not much luck with my jeep. I cannot recommend this unit very highly. I did not contact MSD Manufactures on this latest failure, because they pretty much blew me off on the last one. Also I habe been running a MSD 6 on my 1990 supercharged Mustang and I did have one failure with it years ago and had to replace it with another. The 2nd one does not have many miles on it and is working fine.
