Magnaflow fabricates each catalytic converter body from a single CNC-formed and laser-welded tubular section, which is then spun into a round shape. Converters are literally formed around the ceramic catalyst and securely tucked inside. They are designed for use in tight places and have thicker inlet/outlet material for maximum durability. .

    Choosing the Correct Catalytic Converter
    1.
Determine engine size and vehicle weight (there are legal limit regulations).

    2. Determine the type of catalytic converter being replaced:
  • Pre OBD-II converters are for vehicles built before 1996.
  • OBD-II converters must be used on vehicles built in 1996-Up.

    3. If the engine has been changed and is not the same model year as the chassis, proceed as follows:
  • For engines older than the chassis, select the converter based on the chassis model year.
  • For engines newer than the chassis, select the converter according to the engine requirement.

    4. Does the vehicle have federal or California emissions? Required by the EPA, this information is on the emission control label in the engine compartment. The label (examples below) should be visible on the firewall, hood's underside, radiator support, fan shroud, or shock tower.
