Crankshaft
All internal engines have one goal in common, which is to produce rotating power. The rotation is then transferred to the wheels, providing vehicle movement. One of the key components in providing this rotational power is the crankshaft. The crankshaft in an engine is moved by the pistons and connecting rods pushing down on the crank journals with precise timing during combustion, similar to pushing down on the pedals of a bicycle to make it move. The rotation of the crankshaft is then transferred to the transmission/drivetrain and finally to the wheels.
When selecting the crankshaft of an engine, it is important to confirm the stroke, rear main seal type, front/rear balance (internal or external), as well as connecting rod length and rod bearing journal size(in some applications). Next, determine the maximum horsepower output of your engine and choose the crankshaft material type that is rated to handle that horsepower.
JEGS offers a large engine crankshaft selection to choose from, manufactured by top vendors in the industry like Eagle, Scat, Crower, Lunati,Manley, and others. Each crankshaft is made from high-quality materials assembly to provide the power and performance your engine needs.
