Developed by one of NASCAR's top engine builders, this innovative new tool precisely grooves the lifter bore to ensure that pressure fed oil is directly injected into the contact area between lifter and camshaft. This increased oiling significantly reduces wear on the camshaft and lifters and minimizes the risk of premature failure during break-in. This machining operation to the block is quick, easy, inexpensive, and the best insurance for a new camshaft.

  • 5007 - Comp Cams Lifter Bore Grooving Tool is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool, lame instructions. I bought this a few weeks ago to use on the 440 that I'm currently building and also some future builds. The tool is very well made, but the instructions provided were pretty vague and have no illustrations. When I attempted to assemble and use per the instructions, I was unable to cut any grooves w/o the blade retracting. I called the tech line at Comp, but the guy on the phone was unfamiliar with the tool. He went and got one from the shelf and proceeded to read the directions to me. No help! After i hung up, I went back and tried again, this is what I found. There is a counter sunk screw provided to hold the blade in place and the blade has a counter bored hole. If I installed the blade with the screw in the counter bore, the blade couldn't be adjusted to make contact with the lifter bore. i finally resorted to flipping the blade over and installing the screw from the other side. This allowed me to adjust the blade with the set screw provided and obtain the proper cuts. Looks weird, but works. This tool isn't inexpensive, but it works well and will pay for itself over several uses.
