Your O.E.M. filter uses a paper element to keep dust and dirt out of your engine. When it plugs up, it is thrown away and you buy a new one. The deep pleats of cotton on JEGS Cone Air Filters will trap smaller particles and allow better airflow to your engine. When it gets dirty, just clean, re-oil and reinstall. This filter will last the life of your car, maybe longer. These Universal Filters are encased in steel mesh instead of aluminum, reducing any damage, and the rubber perimeter is hand-molded so rubber will not intrude into the pleats, blocking flow. The cotton element is not mesh, but woven, so it filters finer particles, spreads oil more evenly, and has better air flow.
