514032 - JEGS Small Block Chevy Cylinder Heads is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for the price, but disassemble and clean them I give the heads 5/5 starts keeping in mind they are extremely reasonably priced for what you get. Warnings: Disassemble the heads and clean them thoroughly. During disassembly, I found bronze shavings in the valve guides from machining that were not washed out. Also, the assembler put way too much assembly lube on the valve stems and even on the seats and underside of the valve heads. You don't want lube on the seats nor running down the runners once that lube heats up. The Casting: The casting is very good overall. The casting is made by Profiler according to one of the technicians to which I spoke. The runners are nicely designed with smooth walls. The runners have some shallow casting lines that likely wouldn't affect flow for most street/strip engines, but the casting lines were easy enough to grind/sand smooth. The combustion chamber finish is pretty smooth also--enough for me to not throw away CC's to polish them. The casting in the pocket around the guides is particularly nice for flow. The valve seat counterbores into the pockets are the most problematic part of the casting. The counterbore cuts for the valve seats leave a substantial cliff in the pocket. The cliffs aren't as much an issue on the intake side since the air will be flowing off the cliff, but the exhaust exiting the cylinder will run into the side of this cliff. There was plenty of material in the pockets to smooth out these ridges with grinding/sanding, however. The only other casting issue is that the oil return holes are smaller than stock. I chamfered the opening of these holes to help the oil flow better, but there isn't much room to drill them out before hitting the water jacket or getting into the runner. I didn't see the benefit in doing so compared to the risk. Parts: I'm not as impressed with the parts used, especially since the ad claims the heads are "Made in the USA." The valves are QualFast (made by QualCast) 53-100202 and 53-100160. I called QualCast and found out the valves are forged and machined in India. They are 21-2N stainless, chrome stems, and wafer-welded tips. I know QualCast has a good reputation of supplying rebuilder parts, and India has a good reputation with their forging and machine work, so I'm hoping they are decent valves. The valve guides look identical to the photos in the QualCast catalog, so they might be QualCast. There are no identification marks for the springs, retainers, locators, keepers, or seals, so who knows who makes them and where. They look like good quality. The guide plates are Erson. Overall: For the price and for American castings with good flow design, I'm happy with the heads. I'm put off by the ad stating they are Made in the USA when not all the components are, but I'm willing to let that slide considering the valves are made in India vs. China. Be sure to disassemble and clean the heads unless you want to run bronze shavings through your cylinder, varnish lube on your seats, and with any luck stick or burn a valve in the process.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The second set was good First set they sent me had header bolts that went into an exhaust port. They sent me another set that was good but I wish they would have sent me the new set with a call tag to return the first set instead of making me wait for them to receive the first set before shipping out a new set. These are a nice looking set of heads. The only thing I'd like to see them do is debur where the valve guides enter the exhaust ports. Looks like I'll be doing a little clean up there before installing. All-in-all based on looks I'd buy them again.

Will these work with a solid flat tapped? 11231210 Howard's cam 530 lift

    Asked by: Chippa
We don't carry Howard's cams, so I recommend calling them and asking them if these springs are appropriate. Here are the seat and open pressure specs: 135# @ 1.800" 340# @ 1.200"
