How To Install A Hurst Pistol Grip Quarter Stick Shifter
The directions for installing a Hurst Quarter Stick pistol grip shifter will vary depending on the vehicle and automatic transmission application. However, in most cases, assembly is similar. The first step is creating the space on the vehicle floor so that the shifter can be bolted down. Next, position the shifter so that it provides comfortable and easy access from the driving position and then secure it to the floor. Next, attach the shifter cable to the shifter. Then locate or create a hole so that the cable can be fed through so it can connect to the transmission. The cable needs to contain smooth and wide bends to prevent binding and hard shifting. It also needs to be clear of any moving or hot parts like the driveshaft or exhaust system. Next, bolt the transmission cable bracket in place, which in most cases is on the transmission pan rail, using the pan bolts. The original transmission gear selector arm is replaced with the new one included in the shifter kit. The cable is then connected to the gear selector arm. With the cable connected to the shifter and transmission, confirm that when the shifter "clicks" into each gear, the transmission also "clicks" into gear at the same time, which will prevent transmission performance issues or damage. This process can be made easier with the aid of a helper. With shifting confirmed to be correct and smooth, secure the cable with cable clamps. If the push button switch on the shifter (for some models) will be used, connect it to the system you wish to control. Shifter installation is then complete.
