Exhaust Cutout
An exhaust cutout is an aftermarket modification that allows a driver to control the exhaust flow and sound of their vehicle's exhaust system. The cutout is typically installed in the exhaust system downstream of the headers and before the muffler or resonator. The cutout is designed to be opened and closed using a cable or electric motor, which can be operated by the driver from inside the vehicle. When the cutout is open, the exhaust gases bypass the muffler or resonator and exit directly from the exhaust pipe, resulting in a louder and more aggressive exhaust note. When the cutout is closed, the exhaust gases are forced through the muffler or resonator, resulting in a quieter and more subdued exhaust note. The use of an exhaust cutout can significantly alter the sound and performance of a vehicle's exhaust system, but it must be used responsibly and in compliance with local noise regulations.

When selecting a cable-operated or electric exhaust cutout, first measure and confirm the outside diameter of the exhaust pipe that it will be installed into, as the cutout is designed to slide over it and be clamped or welded in place. From the remaining compatible options, choose the one that best fits your application needs as well as your budget.
