Fuel Filter
Without fuel, your vehicle's internal combustion engine will not run. And although fuel should be clean, areas of transportation and storage, such as fuel truck delivery tanks, gas station underground tanks, and your car or truck's fuel tank contribute to contamination due to corrosion, dirt, dust, and other debris. To prevent large and harmful debris from clogging your fuel pump, carburetor or fuel injectors, fuel filters are used. These components are typically located in the fuel tank (at the point where fuel is drawn) and inline between the pump and carburetor or fuel injection system. Either requiring complete replacement or just the inner cartridge, fuel filters use a media that allows fuel to pass through, but traps particles that can cause fuel system problems. It's important to change fuel filters at the recommended mileage or length of time.
When choosing a direct replacement inline fuel filter, it's important to confirm the year, make, model, and engine of your vehicle to ensure proper fitment and operation. For custom fuel systems, the filtering capability is important depending on filter placement. Fuel filters placed before the fuel pump need to allow larger particles to go through to reduce restrictions in fuel volume. Once the fuel has passed through the fuel pump, the increased pressure can go into a filter that can trap smaller microns that could clock carburetor jets or fuel injectors. Fuel filter replacement cost varies between $5 to $500, depending on the application.
