Racing Gloves

Depending on the type and class you are racing in, SFI-approved race gloves may be required. These gloves are designed to slow down the speed at which fire will reach your hands and wrists, providing you with extra time to escape from a burning vehicle and hot parts in the event of an engine fire or vehicle accident.

Car racing gloves and custom driving gloves provide a comfortable grip for driving. In addition, they can help to wick away any sweat from the hands that can cause a slippery surface on the steering wheel, creating a dangerous situation, especially in racing applications.

Custom racing gloves and car driving gloves are a fitted and sized covering worn over the hands while driving your car, truck, race vehicle, motorcycle, or ATV. They provide increased comfort that helps reduce driver fatigue. They are also available with Nomex or other fire-retardant materials that help reduce burn injuries in the event of an accident during racing.

There are a number of reasons why people wear car driving gloves. During winter months, gloves keep your hands warm when holding onto a cold steering wheel. Gloves also provide comfort and a better feel and grip on the steering wheel for the driver. In some racing classes, race gloves are required to help prevent you from burning your hands while escaping from a vehicle fire.

Some driving gloves have holes incorporated into the design to allow your hands to breathe and reduce sweat that can cause discomfort in the space between the hands and gloves. In some designs, holes can also help improve dexterity and movement as well.

Driving gloves should fit snug enough so that the hands do not move freely inside them, but loose enough to allow comfortable hand movement and grip on the steering wheel. Too tight of gloves will cause restriction in movement along with discomfort. Excessive slack in gloves will cause them to "bunch" up and result in a loose hold on the wheel.
