Rear Control Arms
The Global West Advantage: Tech Info - Originally setting the pinion angle on a 1959-1964 Impala required unbolting the upper arm bracket and installing shims. The process could take several hours.
Global West has introduced a rear adjustable control arm that makes setting the pinion angle easy. You simply have the car drive on a lift. After measuring the pinion angle and loosening the jam nuts on the hex adjuster, turn the adjuster in or out depending on the desired angle required.
Once the angle is set, retighten the jam nuts on the adjuster and you are done. This particular arm uses a high misalignment spherical bearing. The bearings allow the rear end to pivot without bind. The design of the rear suspension actually moves slightly from side to side because of the panhard rod. The bushings in the upper and lower arm must allow for some lateral movement or bind will occur. Our spherical bearing will accommodate this movement without sacrificing deflection.
The other end of the upper arm has a rubber bushing in it. Rubber has just enough give to make the system work. We do not recommend polyurethane bushings because we do need some lateral movement as described earlier. Poly bushings in this application will restrict lateral movement in the suspension. If you incorporate polyurethane in the upper and lower arms, your ride will get stiffer.
