Rated 5 out of 5 by from This timing chain cover fit perfectly. Included everything I needed for installation (gaskets and Seal) All the threaded holes had good threads and I had no issues installing the fuel pump and water pump. It is a perfect OEM replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For use with Ford M-8501-E351S 'Shorty' Water Pump The Ford Racing ‘Shorty’ water pump is offered by Ford Motor Co for use on any Ford small-block when radiator clearance is a problem. It is approximately 2 inches shorter than the stock pump and requires special pulleys and alternator/compressor/PS pump mounts. (See Fig 1) It is not available at your local Ford dealer parts department but Jeg’s has them under their part number; 397-M-8501-E351S, $142.99. These pumps will work with either a clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation which means you can run a serpentine or a standard V belt accessory drive configuration. However, if you are trying to use the above mentioned Ford Racing ‘Shorty’ Water pump with your original Ford timing cover, or the recommended Ford Racing Timing Cover (pt No. M-6059-D351), then you’re almost certainly going to have coolant leaks. The following is how to fix that reliably and permanently. The problem is three-fold. First of all, the ‘Shorty’ water pump’s casting omits the bolt holes for the two innermost water pump to timing cover bolts. (See Fig 2) Second, the ‘Shorty’ pump does not mate properly with stock timing cover or the Ford Racing M-6059-D351 timing cover because neither of those timing cover castings has a ‘full-perimeter’ gasket surface to match the ‘Shorty’ Water Pump’s perimeter gasket face. (See Fig 3) And third, without the two innermost water pump bolts, the assembly is likely to leak coolant into the cavity formed between the timing cover and the backside of the water pump steel plate that goes between the pump and the cover. (See Fig 4) It should also be noted that coolant can leak into the small valleys on the top of the OE or FR timing cover over the timing chain. That’s because there is no bolt in these holes and if the OE Ford cover bolt holes have broken through the backside of the casting, it will leak at these points to create small puddles on the top of the cover casting. (See Fig 5) Jeg’s timing cover (pt No 555-50300) solves two of the three problems and the third can be solved with a small amount of Permatex Cold Weld (Pt No 14600) applied to the ‘Weep-Hole’ found at the bottom of the water pump gasket surface in the new Jeg’s timing cover (See Fig 6). We may not be able to keep coolant from getting in this cavity, but we can stop coolant from getting out. The Jeg’s cover does have a full perimeter water pump gasket flange to match the shorty pump’s full perimeter gasket face and, the two inboard water pump bolt holes are ‘blind-holes’. So, they can’t leak coolant into the top notches of the timing cover. Note; The Jeg’s 555-50300 Timing Cover does not have provisions for using the ‘Locator Sleeves’ at the lower corners of block/timing cover. To work around this, install timing cover as usual but leave all bolts loose. Then, install the balancer. This will center the cover about the balancer seal. Put your finger at the joint between the block oil pan gasket rail/Timing cover rail and position the timing cover for level, then snug the lower front cover bolt. Do the same with the other side and then tighten all your cover bolts. When ordering your new timing cover, get either a Fel-Pro Timing Cover Gskt set (pt No. TCS45168) or a Clevite Timing Cover Gskt set (pt No. JV856) if you’d rather have Dark colored gaskets. (See fig 6) Both are available at Jeg’s under these part numbers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New? The part was on back order, but Jegs got it to me much faster than anticipated. I was super pumped until I opened the box. Usually items are packed like a pro, but this time, I am wondering if my address just was slapped on the box as soon as it came in. the casting has surface flaws all over it. Pitting, discoloration, surface cracking. On top of that, someone clearly attacked this thing with a wire wheel all around trying to take down high spots on gasket lines. Even more comical is where it was apparently (Hand?) polished in a 2" area around the boss for the timing, AND the inside around the front seal. The Machine work on the water pump gasket seems to have been done to two different tolerances, and I can catch my finger nail in the difference. I have seen used units in better shape, and the only reason I think this may be new is that the machine work on the lower bolt holes was so sloppy that there is still media in them. I'm afraid this may have to go back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poorly machined. Save yourself the trouble. I bought this cover because it is about the only timing chain cover made for "2 o'clock" timing pointers that are used with water pumps that have passenger side water inlets. However, the lower seal is machined about 1/8" askew of the bolts, making the likelihood of an oil leak at the oil pan extremely high. I would have returned it, but I had already painted it when I discovered the bad machining. Thinking it might be fluke, I ordered another. It had the same exact issue. I will be returning it. So, save your money on this item. You are much better off buying the Ford made cover (which actually lines up), machining off the 10 o'clock pointer (grind it, if you have to, it's super easy), and buying a nice 2 o'clock pointer. Really disappointed.
