Clutch Kit
Connecting the engine flywheel to a manual transmission is the clutch. The clutch includes the disc, pressure plate, and release / throwout bearing. The disc is installed between the flywheel and pressure plate (which are bolted together). Once the engine is running, and when the clutch pedal is released and the transmission is in gear, the release bearing allows the pressure plate to apply pressure against the clutch disc, essentially wedging it against the engine flywheel. This engagement then rotates the transmission input shaft, gears, and the rest of the vehicle drivetrain, including the wheels. Over time from wear and age, the clutch components wear and degrade, requiring replacement.
When choosing a replacement clutch kit, first confirm the year, make, model and engine size of your vehicle. If the engine is completely stock, a clutch kit for stock applications is sufficient. However, if the horsepower of the engine has been increased, confirm the kit being selected is rated above your engine's horsepower output. For custom applications, additional specifications need to match your vehicle's needs such as spline size and count, disc diameter, and pressure plate diaphragm type. From the remaining compatible options, choose the clutch kit that meets your vehicle's needs best as well as your budget.
