With full travel hydraulic lifters, higher RPM in performance engines is often limited by the incorrect positioning of the lifter's internal piston, which inevitably "pumps up" during the engine cycle. This improper location results in open valves and therefore leads to lost horsepower and sometimes even engine failure. With COMP Cams Short Travel Race Hydraulic Roller Lifters, the patent-pending design minimizes internal piston movement to cut down on open valve issues and allow higher engine RPM (thus increasing horsepower).

The surface of these lifters has been black oxided to significantly reduce surface friction, wear, and lubrication temperatures. This creates a high-performance, high-quality component.

Yes, most hydraulic lifters need ~1 turn of pre-load. These are short travel lifters.Their plungers have much less travel. The comp instructions say 0-1/4 turn. Is this is done hot or cold? What if you have Al heads? Txs!

These can be set cold, aluminum heads shouldn't make a difference for the preload set.

What is the proper way to set preload? If setting on a cold engine, you need to preload so the lifter plunger is 1/2 way through its travel, right? Then add .006 more preload for Al heads?

    Asked by: Lej1969
Many of the hydraulic lifters are set with the "one turn" preload adjustment. One full turn once the combination is snug.
