Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Quality I have s small block V8 in a classic 65 Corvette. The factory starter has always suffered from heat soak and failed to turn the engine over at the worst moments. I bit the bullet and purchased this gear reduction starter hoping it would solve this hear problem. The unit is very well built and is easy to install. My only problem was trying to measure the flywheel/starter clearance. The bell housing prevented the view of the gear clearance. The manufacturer advised to dab a little paint on the gear and turn the engine over to examine gear mesh. This seemed to work and no shims were required. With 100 degree heat in Texas and my car fully hot, I have not experienced any heat soak at all. The starter works everytime and is very fast with no effort noted. I feel it was a good investment for me. I recommend this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality Control? I've ordered 2 of these starters for my 350 sbc with flat top pistons and 305 heads although the fitment was perfect the first one literally snapped in half seemingly due to an imperfection in the mounting block casting. The second came with a casing bolt loose, with it already mounted I noticed it and started to tighten it with no effort the casing cracked. I got maybe 20-30 starts out of the first one and 0 out of the second. When it worked it was great but it didn't last. Have another on the way, 3rd times the charm?
