The main benefit of converting your vehicle from manual to power steering is that it allows you to turn the steering wheel in your vehicle much easier, especially at low speeds. This improves your driving experience.

Depending on the application, the steps to convert your vehicle from manual to power steering will change. In many vehicles, the following general directions are followed:

• Raise the vehicle safely so that it is high enough to be able to work underneath comfortably.
• Disconnect the pitman arm from the center link and then remove it from the gearbox.
• Disconnect the rag joint from the steering intermediate shaft to the gearbox.
• Remove the manual steering gearbox.
• Bolt the power steering gearbox to the frame.
• Reconnect the steering rag joint from the intermediate shaft or column to the gearbox.
• Install the original or new pitman arm on the gearbox.
• Install the power steering pump, pulley, and belt and connect the pressure and return hoses.
• Fill the power steering fluid reservoir and with the engine running, bleed the hydraulic system by turning the steering wheel slowly from the far left to the far right with the wheels off the ground and ensuring the reservoir has the proper amount of fluid to prevent damage. Also check for fluid leaks.
• Adjust steering alignment.
