    Hydra-Matic 4L65-E Four-Speed Automatic Transmission

    Technical Information:
    The differences between 4L60-E, 4L65-E, 4L70-E (4L60 Family Transmissions) are primarily by gearset design. Each planetary gearset in the 4L60 has four pinion gears, and the 4L65 and 4L70 have five pinion gear planetaries. The input torque ratings for the different transmissions are; 4L60-E: 380 ft/lbs, 4L65-E: 430 ft/lbs and 4L70-E: 495 ft/lbs. External fit, form and function are identical between the three variants of 4L60-E, 4L65-E, and 4L70-E transmission assemblies.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dont buy as a stock replacement. I bought this gmpp 4l65e to replace the 4l60e in my 2001 Camaro SS setup. The trans shifts very lazy and flares the 2-3 shift really bad. I have gotten no assistance from gmpp because they told me it's not meant as a replacement transmission. It is only to be used with their controller, not a stock pcm. I guess it is my fault for not realizing that. None of their sales info says it has to be used with their controller and will fail immediately if used in a stock gm vehicle. I have had a pretty reputable tuner helping me and we haven't figured out the proper tune to eliminate the flare. It has gotten better but still there. I'm sure pulling the trans back out to replace parts is next. Their went A bunch of money to GM. After spending 19 years at a GM dealership and always being completely loyal to the brand this is what I get. Gmpp also has given me no assistance on how to tune the computer or what changes to make. Also this transmission uses different fittings for the trans cooler so you have to redo the cooler lines. I wish they were more informative in the sales info.
