Valvetrain geometry is extremely critical on high-performance engines, but getting it right has never been easier with these length checker pushrods.
The Master Kit (#555-80670) includes eight adjustable 3/8" aluminum pushrods with 5/16" ball tips (lengths listed below), two valve checking springs, two 5/16" cup tips, two 3/8" cup tips, and storage cylinder. The rods fit virtually every engine and are a must-have tool for engine builders. Individual pushrods and replacement tips are also sold separately.

What Are The Main Benefits of JEGS Adjustable Pushrod Length Checkers?
The JEGS Brand adjustable pushrod tool is designed to allow you to confirm the correct length of pushrod for your custom engine. An aftermarket or decked block, decked cylinder heads, different thickness head gaskets, non-stock rocker arms or rocker arm studs, as well as a small base-circle camshaft or different lifter type (such as roller or solid lifter) will affect pushrod length. By turning the pushrod tubes, the length can shorten or lengthen. This allows you to determine the exact size of pushrod you need without guessing.
How To Use a JEGS Adjustable Pushrod Length Checker
The first step in using an adjustable pushrod length checker is selecting the adjustment range that is close to the factory length. Next, with the checker adjusted (by turning the tubes) to a close-to-correct length, install it into the cylinder head and confirm it is seating against the top of the camshaft lifter. Then, with a marker, such as a dry-erase design, color the face of the intake or exhaust valve tip. The rocker arm can then be installed, following the installation procedure for your engine with either zero lash or to match cold-lash. If using high-pressure valve springs, it is recommended to use checking springs temporarily in their place, so as not to damage the pushrod length checking tool. With the checking tool and rocker arm correctly installed, hand rotate the engine at least two rotations by using a crankshaft turning nut, and stop when the valve you are checking is at its highest point (the lifter on the base side of the camshaft lobe). This allows the valve to open and close more than once and for the mark made on the top of the valve to wear and produce a line. If the colored exhaust tip has a line wore into it directly over the center of the face, you have the correct pushrod length. If the wear line is towards the exhaust port side of the valve stem tip, the pushrod length is too long. If it is on the intake port side of the valve stem tip, the pushrod length is too short. In either of these cases, change the pushrod checker length and repeat the process until a wear mark is in the center of the top of the valve tip. Once the correct length is determined, remove the checker and measure its length so that you can select and purchase the correct pushrod to use, matching the measurement.
