Engine Break-In Procedure

Use only engine oil that meets dexos1 specifications. For track events or competitive driving, use Mobil 1 15W-50 engine oil. Fill the engine with oil and follow the proper engine priming procedure. Also check and fill as required any other necessary fluids such as coolant, power steering fluid, etc.

Start the engine and listen for any unusual noises. If no unusual noises are noted, run the engine at approximately 1,000 RPM until normal operating temperature is reached. The engine should be driven at varying loads and conditions for the first 30 miles or one hour without wide open throttle (WOT) or sustained high RPM accelerations. Run five or six medium throttle (50%) accelerations to about 4,000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear. Run two or three hard throttle (WOT 100%) accelerations to about 4,000 RPM and back to idle (0% throttle) in gear.

Change the engine oil and filter. Inspect the oil and the oil filter for any foreign particles to ensure that the engine is functioning properly. Drive the next 500 miles (12 to 15 engine hours) under normal conditions. Do not run the engine at its maximum rated engine speed. Also, do not expose the engine to extended periods of high load. Change the oil and filter again, and inspect the oil and oil filter for any foreign particles to ensure that the engine is functioning properly.

Introduced in the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the 6.2L LT1 V-8 opened the next chapter in the long, historic legacy of the Small-Block engine. It is architecturally similar to the LS family of Small-Block engines, but with a unique block casting, cylinder head design, oiling system and more.

It also combines advanced technologies including direct injection, Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing to support an advanced combustion system. In fact, more than 10 million hours of computational analysis were conducted on the engine program, including 6 million hours (CPU time) dedicated to the advanced combustion system. The result is more power with greater efficiency than any previous Small-Block engine! Chevrolet Performance's new LT1 crate engine - offered with a wet-sump or dry-sump oiling system - is rated at either 455 or 460 horsepower and 455 lb-ft 465 lb-ft of torque respectively. A controller specially designed for retrofit applications is available. Using the specified controller retains the operation of all the advanced technology features.

There are also all-new transmission installation kits specially designed to match the new LT1 and its 8-bolt crankshaft flange with Chevrolet Performance's 4L60-series four-speed automatic transmissions and the T-56 Super Magnum six-speed manual.
