Crane offers many of its camshafts with multi-indexcam gears. This allows you to install the cam ineither the original "straight up" zero degree (0°)position, 4 degrees advanced (A), or 4 degreesretarded (R). Advancing the cam pulls the powerrange down a few hundred PRM, creating betterbottom-end power. Retarding the cam raises thepower band up, creating better top-end power. Asmall arbor press and a simple holding fixture willbe required to remove the gear and to relocate it toyour desired keyway position.
- Varying cam timing is one of the most important ways that professional engine builders wring maximum power out of their products. You can tap that same "hidden horsepower" with Crane adjustable cam gears. They're CNC-machined from strong, lightweight 6061 T-6 billet aluminum, and provide 10 degrees of advance or retard adjustment. A special rough finish on the gears helps to grab the timing belt. They're available for foreign and domestic sport compacts, and come complete with stainless steel hardware.
