HAYS recommends an external transmission cooler for all Twister 3/4 Race Converters (A minimum size of 18,000 GVW or 15,000 BTU Rating.)
Note: Stall ranges will vary depending on engine set-up, weight of vehicle, and gear ratio (Please see converter selector in tech resources for more info)

** ADVERTISED stall speeds are based off of a 3600 lb. car with 200 HP/275 ft.-lbs., 3.42 gear, and a 26 inch tire.**

With this in mind, to achieve a DESIRED or ACTUAL stall speed for your application, it may require a converter with a substantially different ADVERTISED stall speed.
Example: A Street Rod that weighs 2,000 lbs. with a DESIRED stall speed of 1800 RPM. The lighter weight of the vehicle reduces the stall of the torque converter. To achieve a DESIRED stall of 1800 RPM, you would need a converter with an ADVERTISED stall speed of 4200-5000 RPM.

Weight: Like the example shows, a vehicle lighter than 3600lbs. will reduce the stall of a converter. A vehicle heavier than 3600 lbs. will increase the stall of a converter.
HP/Torque: A vehicle with an engine producing more than 200HP/275 ft.-lbs. will increase the stall of a converter. A vehicle with an engine producing less than 200HP/275 ft.-lbs. will decrease the stall of a converter.
Gear: A vehicle with a numerically higher (lower) rear gear will reduce the stall of a converter. A vehicle with a numerically lower (higher) rear gear will increase the stall of a converter.
Tire Size: A vehicle with a tire shorter than 26” will raise (numerically) final drive gear ratio, and reduce the stall of a converter. A vehicle with a tire taller than 26” will lower (numerically) the final drive ratio, and increase the stall of a converter.
Exhaust: Open headers will decrease the stall RPM of a converter when compared to a full exhaust system on the same vehicle.

Hays Twister 3/4 Race Torque Converters are intended for street or strip use and work great in combination with Hays flexplates, clutches and flywheels. Each Twister is rated up to 650 horsepower and most applications are offered in multiple stall speeds to accommodate any combination of aftermarket upgrades. Almost all Hays converters are built to be application specific to reduce weight, increase horsepower and acceleration over multi-bolt pattern style converters. Each converter is hand-built and inspected to ensure the upmost quality.

A state of the art spray welding process is used in select areas and provides clean, strong and consistent fusion while also increasing strength through hardening from higher process temperatures. All Hays converters are internally welded compared to brazing, which provides a longer service life. Stators with high flow vents and channels are used to promote cooling and Heavy-duty Torrington bearings are used for greater strength and durability.

Hays recommends that all Twister Torque Converters are paired with an external transmission cooler (sold separately) that has at least 18,000 GVW or 15,000 BTU rating. The Twister 3/4 Race series is for street and/or strip use, but are not designed to be used with nitrous oxide or a trans-brake.
