This Hurst Engineering 5-lug rear axle shaft is a direct replacement for the GM 12-bolt truck rear end (8.875 in. ring gear) used in 1963-1969 Chevy and GMC C/K trucks. Original axles in these trucks are now decades old and often show worn bearing surfaces or bent flanges; this shaft is made from heat treated 1541H alloy steel for strength and durability, and it converts the truck from the original 6-lug pattern to a 5x5 in. pattern for a wider choice of wheels. 1963-1964 trucks use axle seals with a 2.535 in. OD and 1965-1969 trucks use seals with a 2.579 in. OD, so confirm the seal size for your year when ordering.
