54956 Standard Grade Universal Catalytic Converter
Keep the check engine light off with MagnaFlow Standard Grade Federal/EPA Compliant Universal Catalytic Converter 54956. The Universal design allows the part to fit a wide array of vehicles (cutting and welding required), and the stainless steel construction of this spun body catalytic converter is highly resistant to corrosion. The single laser fusion weld of the spun body greatly reduces the possibility of a leak, and our compact, low-mass design also allows for greater thermal efficiency. This replacement part is designed to meet or exceed Federal emissions requirements set forth by the EPA, complying with legal standards for pre-OBDII Federally registered vehicles.
Magnaflow 54956 Standard Grade Universal Catalytic Converter Features:
- Your trusted source for EPA-compliant catalytic converters, providing assurance of genuine compliance while delivering quality that will last
- Expertly formulated catalyst blend maximizes efficiency, ensuring optimal emissions control to keep your check engine light off
- High strength 16 gauge 409 stainless steel tubing for exceptional corrosion resistance and maximum service life
- Compact, lightweight construction enables installation in confined areas, welding is required
- Durable 308 stainless steel MIG welds
Magnaflow fabricates each catalytic converter body from a single CNC-formed and laser-welded tubular section, which is then spun into a round shape. Converters are literally formed around the ceramic catalyst and securely tucked inside. They are designed for use in tight places and have thicker inlet/outlet material for maximum durability.

Choosing the Correct Catalytic Converter
1. Determine engine size and vehicle weight (there are legal limit regulations).
2. Determine the type of catalytic converter being replaced:
- Pre OBD-II converters are for vehicles built before 1996.
- OBD-II converters must be used on vehicles built in 1996-Up.
3. If the engine has been changed and is not the same model year as the chassis, proceed as follows:
- For engines older than the chassis, select the converter based on the chassis model year.
- For engines newer than the chassis, select the converter according to the engine requirement.
4. It is necessary to know which type of catalytic converter was originally used on the vehicle: 2-Way, 3-Way, or 3-Way + Air. Required by the EPA, this information (abbreviations listed below) is on the vehicle emission control label in the engine compartment. The label should be visible on the firewall, hood's underside, radiator support, fan shroud, or shock tower.
- 2-Way (Oxidation) = OC or COC
- 3-Way (Oxidation Reduction) = TWC or ORC
- 3-Way + Air (3-Way plus Oxidation) = TWC/OC or ORC/OC
Note: 49-State Catalytic Converters are not legal for sale, installation, or use on licensed vehicles in the state of California.
