Wheel speed sensors are the input the whole anti-lock and stability system depends on. They sit right at the hub in the path of water and road salt, so the failures are corrosion at the connector and a cracked sensor body letting moisture into the coil. One dropped signal is enough to shut the ABS down and light the dash.
