A worn 5.7L cam usually announces itself with a tick that will not go away, a misfire on one cylinder and metal in the oil filter, most often after the MDS lifters have started to fail. Replacing the cam without addressing the lifters is a short term fix, so plan on doing both. This is the original equipment grind, which keeps factory power, idle quality and emissions behavior intact.
