This is the duct between the air filter housing and the turbo inlet, and everything downstream of the filter depends on it staying sealed. A split seam or a loose clamp lets unfiltered air past the element, which on a diesel means dust straight into the turbo and the cylinders. It is supplied as an assembly rather than a single moulding, so check the clamps and grommets while you have it apart.
