This is the return leg between the steering gear and the cooler. Return hoses run at low pressure but high temperature, and on a heavy truck the fluid coming out of the gear is hot enough that the hose eventually hardens and cracks at the fittings. A leak here drops fluid level and takes steering assist with it.
