Slinging an engine on a chain wrapped round a header bolt is how blocks get dropped and intakes get scratched. A lift plate bolts flat to the carburetor pad and gives the hoist a single balanced pick-up point, which also lets you tilt the engine to line the input shaft up with the bellhousing.
