A center-hung float has its float arm attached to the float center and is hung/pivots from the center of the float bowl. Center-hung floats are also available with notches for jet extensions to pick-up fuel during extreme g-forces. The notched floats are available in nitrophyl only and can be purchased with or without the jet extensions. Special wedge shaped floats are also available for circle track applications in the center-hung style.
A side-hung float has its float arm attached at one side and is hung/pivots from the side of the float bowl. Side-hung floats are the only style to feature a non-adjustable version as all other floats are adjustable.
The floats constructed of brass are designed for use with alcohol or methanol fuels. The nitrophyl floats are the most common as they are used with gasoline in naturally aspirated and blow-through forced induction systems. A draw-through forced induction system can use either construction depending on the fuel used.
