Air Cleaner Assembly
An automotive air cleaner assembly is an essential component of your car's engine that filters out harmful contaminants from the air before it enters the intake manifold. It is typically located on top of the engine and consists of a filter element, housing, and connecting ductwork, depending on the application. The filter element is designed to capture dirt, dust, and other debris, preventing it from entering the engine and causing damage. When the engine is running, air is drawn into the air cleaner assembly through the ductwork and into the filter element. The filter traps the contaminants, while allowing clean air to pass through and enter the engine. Over time, the filter element becomes dirty and clogged, reducing the amount of air that can flow through it. This can cause a decrease in engine performance and fuel efficiency. Unless the filter element can be cleaned and is reusable, replacement is necessary.
When choosing an air cleaner assembly, first confirm the carburetor or throttle body mounting hole diameter for proper fitment. Next, confirm how much hood clearance is available to ensure air cleaner fitment. In addition, decide on the diameter needed and confirm there is room. In some cases, an air cleaner spacer will be required to clear any linkage or fuel lines under the air cleaner.
