Catalytic Converter
Part of most exhaust systems since the 1970's, a catalytic converter transforms harmful compounds (like hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitric oxide) created from engine combustion into safe gases like water vapor, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen by passing through a honeycomb of platinum, palladium, or rhodium metal, which causes a chemical reaction. When electronic fuel injection was introduced, oxygen sensor bungs were installed in the front and/or back of the converter to test the air and fuel mixture, confirming that the catalytic converter and fuel injection were properly functioning.
When selecting a catalytic converter, it's important to confirm the year, make, model, and engine for your vehicle to ensure proper fitment. If you live in a state that has high restrictions on exhaust (like California or New York, for example), a catalytic converter clean enough and certified is required in order to pass emissions testing.
JEGS offers a very large catalytic converter selection from top exhaust manufacturers like Dynomax, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, JEGS, and many others. A catalytic converter price ranges between $25 and $6,500, depending on the application. Each converter is built with high-quality components and assembly to ensure improved emissions, while retaining proper exhaust flow.
