Connecting the carburetor or throttle body to the cylinder heads and directing air and fuel mixture flow into the combustion chambers is the intake manifold. This component is mounted near the top of the engine and can be made of cast iron, aluminum, or even plastic. It also can contain water jackets, the cooling system thermostat, as well as sensors (intake air temperature, coolant temperature, etc.). Over time, wear and damage can occur, requiring replacement. For performance applications, the proper intake manifold is used to match the camshaft and other engine components to improve horsepower and performance.

When selecting a factory replacement intake manifold, the first step is confirming the year, make, model, and engine of your vehicle. This will help ensure the narrowed down part options fit your application. From the remaining intake manifolds, choose the one that fits your needs and budget. For aftermarket and performance intake manifolds, first confirm the year, make, and size of your engine. Next, confirm the carburetor mounting pad type (ex. Square, spread bore, Dominator/4500) & height (i.e. low, mid, or high-rise) or fuel injection mounting type (throttle body, multipoint, etc.). Don't forget to purchase an intake manifold gasket set, hardware, and any other components or tools required to complete the project.
