Piston
During engine combustion, the fuel and air mixture is ignited by the spark plug while the intake and exhaust valves are closed. The resulting explosion expands and pushes down on the engine piston. This downward movement forces the crankshaft to turn, similar to when you push down on bicycle pedals with your feet to make the rear tire move. Engine pistons need to be strong enough to handle the heat and combustion that pushes against them. Whether a normally aspirated daily-driver engine, or an all-out high performance nitrous-powered dragster power plant, if you don't have the right piston, engine performance will suffer and damage will result.

When selecting a piston, it is important to choose the correct bore size (ex, standard, +.030, etc.), connecting rod length you are using, as well as the piston top type (dish, flat, dome, with valve reliefs, etc.). It is also critical to match your engine components properly so that piston to valve contact doesn't occur. In addition, be sure to choose the correct compression ratio for your application.
JEGS offers a large selection of pistons from manufacturers such as United Engine Machine, Manley, Sealed Power, Clevite, MAHLE, and others. These pistons will help you complete your next project and provide a long service life for your vehicle.
