Pitman Arm
Responsible for converting steering rotating movement to lateral movement is the pitman arm. This metal component moves like a clock hand, connected to the steering gear box (not present on rack and pinion applications), pushing or pulling the center / drag link which leads to the tie rods and wheels to change the moving direction of a vehicle. Over time from wear and age, a pitman arm will need to be replaced.
When selecting the correct replacement pitman arm, the first step is confirming the year, make, and model of your vehicle to ensure proper fitment and operation. For custom or lifted applications, careful measurements are necessary in order for the steering system to function correctly. Don't forget to purchase additional components and tools such as a pitman arm puller / pitman arm removal tool, steering gear box, center link, and anything else to complete your steering project.
