Sway Bar
When your vehicle turns, leaning and body roll occurs, causing a reduction in traction and handling at higher speeds. To reduce this vehicle behavior, a sway bar is used. Connected to the lower control arms on the ends with sway bar links and the frame at the middle with sway bar bushings, the sway bar compresses the outside lower control arm during a high speed turn. This is accomplished by using leverage from compression put on the inside lower control arm on the other end of the sway bar, making the vehicle lean less and planting the tires more evenly.
When choosing a sway bar for a factory replacement, it's important to match the vehicle year, make, model, and submodel for proper fitment. In performance applications, the thicker the front sway bar, the more understeer the vehicle suspension will exhibit. This makes it more difficult for the rear of the car to slide out in high speed turns, resulting in loss of control. Don't forget to purchase a sway bar link kit and anything else needed to complete installation.
