The hydraulic roller tappet camshaft combines the best characteristic of both the mechanical roller and hydraulic flat tappet designs. It allows an ''aggresive'' more powerful profile, such as higher lift and more area under the curve without the added duration needed to ''ramp up'' a flat tappet to the increased lift-making the lift curve more ''pointy''. The other benefits of hydraulic roller lifters over flat tappet lifters are: the quiet operation, ease of valve lash setting, lower tappet frictional forces, less wear, and you do not need to replace roller tappets when changing camshafts.
