A performance cold air intake is an aftermarket engine component that improves airflow into the engine air inlet. It does this by increasing the air filter flow and size of the tubing from the beginning of the air intake inlet to the throttle body or engine intake opening. Increased airflow, combined with increased fuel, will result in bigger combustion in the engine, resulting in more power transmitted to the drivetrain and wheels.

Car and truck cold air intakes are capable of adding up to 50 additional horsepower, depending on the year, make, and model of the vehicle as well as how restrictive the factory air intake and filter system were designed.

The installation steps for cold air kits vary depending on the application. However, for most, the original factory intake system is completely removed by unbolting it from the engine air inlet, such as a throttle body or intake manifold opening. The cold air intake is then bolted in its place. Once installation is complete, everything is double-checked and the engine is started to confirm there are no air leaks present.
