Installation of a supercharger kit requires many steps and different instructions depending on the manufacturer and the vehicle application. In general, the first step, after reading and understanding all of the instructions, is to remove all of the necessary components from the engine. This may include the factory air filter housing, air intake ducting, fuel system components on top of the engine and (potentially) the intake manifold as well as belt-driven accessories. Once all of the components on the engine are removed (per instructions), assembly can begin with the aftermarket supercharger kit, including the supercharger itself, brackets, fuel system components, intake manifold, air filter system, ducting, electrical components, belt, pulleys and more. Lastly, a computer tune may be required for late model fuel injection setups. A supercharger kit provides an engine with more horsepower. It does this by acting as an air pump to compress air into the engine. This increase in air is added with an increase of fuel, and when ignited, it provides a much larger amount of power as the ignited fuel/air mixture pushes harder on the piston, rotating the crankshaft faster. The supercharger is driven by a belt and is connected to the crankshaft in front of the harmonic damper using a pulley. Most supercharger kits include everything needed to add a supercharger, though in some cases, additional components will be required. Example applications include a supercharger kit for 5.3 GM LS Series engines, Ford Mustang applications, Chrysler Hemi vehicles and many more.

Typically, a supercharger tuner kit is an incomplete supercharger kit as fewer parts are included. These missing items can include fuel injectors, fuel pump booster, map sensor, tuner/tune and other components. The price of a tuner kit is therefore lower than the cost of a complete kit. The most common reason to choose a tuner kit instead of a complete kit is if you are not planning to use many of the items that are in the complete kit. You may decide to use a different size fuel injector, fuel pump booster or map sensor, and you might want to do your own custom tune.
