Universal Pinion Depth Setting Tool for Rear Axles
Pinion depth is the setting that decides whether a fresh ring and pinion runs quietly or howls, and it cannot be judged by eye. This tool measures the depth directly so the shim stack can be set before the carrier goes in, rather than pulling the whole thing back apart after the first road test.
Proform 66516 Pinion Depth Setting Tool Features:
- Measures pinion depth on most car and truck rear axles.
- Universal design covers a wide range of housings.
- Used when setting up a new ring and pinion.
- Sold individually.

The universal pinion depth setting tool is used to measure the pinion depth of most automotive and truck differentials. To get the measurements, attach the pinion depth setting tool to the machined surface in the housing and check the distance to the pinion gear. Three dial indicator extensions (2''-4'') are included for a variety of rear end types. Complete with easy-to-read instructions.
