Cometic Cylinder Head Gaskets go on dry because they are treated with a sealant. Each gasket has .001" thick Viton rubber bonded to its outer stainless steel layer. Adding another sealer can compromise gasket performance. Gaskets are not designed to be used on engines with O-rings or receiver grooves. A surface finish of 50 RA (roughness average) or finer is recommended for proper gasket seal. Always refer to the manufacturer of the fastener to determine accurate torque values.
