MDS lifters are the deactivating type used on HEMI engines with cylinder deactivation, and they are a known wear point: a collapsed lifter takes the cam lobe with it. The lifter and yoke come as an assembly because they have to be installed as a pair, and anyone replacing one should be inspecting the corresponding cam lobe at the same time.
