An HEI cap with the coil mounted in it takes more abuse than a plain cap, because the coil tower and the plug towers share the same piece. Carbon tracking and terminal erosion both cost spark energy, so cap and rotor get replaced as a set. This kit is the direct replacement for a GM HEI style distributor with an internal coil.
